Spring of 2012

The Lamar Academic Decathlon Team • made a valiant effort at last weekend's Regional competition and brought home several medals:

Nikhil Arora earned a gold in Math and was third place out of all of the Honors 1 students
Erica Kim received a gold in Interview for her perfect score and a bronze in Math
Lindsay Lehman earned a bronze in speech
Joseph Kline won a silver in Interview
Marlea Hickman took home a bronze in Super Quiz
and Michael Watkins walked away with a gold medal in Super Quiz, Language & Literature, Math, and Economics. He also took a silver in Science and was third place out of all the Varsity 1 students!

The Future Business Leaders of Lamar • Students participated in an Area competition in Keller. The following students will represent Lamar March 8th in Houston, TX for the State FBLA Conference. Jonathan Matlott - 1st Place

Clean Sweep....Mr. Adair's Advanced Advertising&Graphic Design Internship class participated in the District DECA Leadership Conference January 22 in the Advertising Campaign Event. All students will advance to State next month.

VAC Students
Terry Murphy and Reuben Jones at GM graciously spent a few hours giving our VAC students from LHS, AHS, BHS, SHHS and MHS a tour and presentation on the GM plant. They highlighted the different jobs and tasks of the employees as well as the process of mass production.

Lamar AVID
Attached is the Lamar AVID Guadalupe Mountains Lab photo that shows some of our Seniors and Juniors who summited Guadalupe Peak on March 13.

Lamar AVID students traveled to Guadalupe Mountains National Park near El Paso, Tx, on March 11, to take part in an astronomy and environmental science field lab. The students camped in primitive conditions for 4 days while taking part in a number of challenging activities. The trip culminated in eleven participants climbing to the top of Guadalupe Peak (elevation 8,749 ft.) and returning to base camp in 10 hours. Total distance hiked during the trip was 15.2 miles with 4,000 feet of eleveation gain.
