Ms. Porter is a native of Dallas. She was editor of her high school newspaper and was active in numerous clubs including National Honor Society, Key Club, T.A.F.E., and the French Club. She was also active in the youth group in her church.

She attended Texas Tech University before earning her Bachelor's Degree in Communications at University of Texas at Arlington and then received her Master's degree in School Administration at University of North Texas.

She worked at Shackelford Junior High, Workman Junior High, and Bowie High School before joining the Lamar staff as an assistant principal in 1986. She encourages students to stay in school and tries to help students achieve their personal goals. In addition to her responsibilities with attendance and discipline, she coordinates the UIL Academic Competition at Lamar and all senior activities.

In her free time, Ms. Porter loves to cook, read, and work crossword puzzles. She enjoys spending time with her family, and she also enjoys the theater, classical music, and traveling.
