High school accounting provides students with the basic principles and concepts of accounting. Accounting is an integral part of every business around the world and is of great benefit in many careers -- stockbroker, hair stylist, salesperson, banker, architect, mechanic, shop owner, photographer, small business owner -- just to name a few. The possibilities are endless!

(Strongly recommended for students planning to major in any area of business in college --every business major is required to take at least two semesters of college accounting. Prepares students to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation from high school.)

Accounting II

Banking and Financial Systems

Banking and Financial Systems introduces students to banking and financial concepts, principles, and procedures. Students will study investments, credit, and the role of the consumer in the marketplace.

Business Computer Information Systems I

Students learn: (1) to be successful in formatting and entering data for papers in the writing labs, (2) how to create and present PowerPoint presentations which are required for assignments for classes in English, Science, Social Studies, and Technology, (3) how to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access - which will help them to find jobs and to be successful in college courses.
BCIS I is approved for one Technology Applications graduation credit.

Business Computer Information Systems II

Students enhance their skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as they learn to apply the programs to problems that they would encounter in college and in the business world. They also learn Access and have opportunities to begin certifications in MOS and IC3.

Business Education Career Preparation

Students receive help in finding office jobs with local businesses. They work a minimum of 15 hours per week and receive pay for their work. Students are dismissed no later than 12:22 each day in order to go to work. BECP is not double blocked.

Using Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, GoLive, and LiveMotion) students will prepare to pass the Certified Web Design Apprentice industry exam. They will develop proficiencies in designing, importing, and manipulating advanced text, graphics, audio, and video used in presentation management, multimedia production, and publishing systems.
BIMM is approved for one Technology Applications graduation credit.

Business Law

Business Law provides insight into the evolution and development of laws that govern business in our society. Students learn how to handle their own personal finances by discussing the importance of budgeting and by learning how to manage a checking account, how to make their money grow, how to use credit responsibly, and how to files taxes. They will be exposed to business ethics and communication skills, job-hunting skills, and the skills needed to be successful on the job.

Keyboarding

This course is strongly recommended for all freshmen -- it is the foundation for a successful high school career. Emphasis is placed on organization skills, time management, listening skills, and test taking skills, as well as the important skill of learning the correct keyboarding techniques for entering data with speed and accuracy. (Keyboarding is not approved for a technology applications credit.)

Microsoft Office Specialist

This course is designed to develop skills used in everyday business activities at home and work. It is concerned primarily with budgets and financial planning, personal income tax, records for a small business, and beginning basic accounting records. The skills learned will also serve as a sound background for employment in the business world.
It can precede but cannot be taken simultaneously with or after Accounting.

Senior Transitions

This course is designed to provide students with opportunities for career and post-secondary educational self-exploration. Topics include planning a career, developing an educational strategy, and learning to prepare for the ACT/SAT tests as well as financial budgeting. Educational and occupational guest speakers and career/job fairs are also part of the curriculum. Keyboarding is strongly recommended for this class.
