  1. denunciation noun the act of denouncing or openly condemning a person or thing
    Jack's denunciation of the church shocked his family; they thought him very pious.
    syn: censure        ant: commendation, acclamation

  2. derogatory adj. disparaging; belittling
    His derogatory remarks were considered tactless by the other employees.
    ant: laudatory, complimentary

  3. deter verb to prevent or discourage (a person, group or nation) from doing something
    Susan tried to deter her boyfriend from taking a job out of because she was afraid it would end their relationship.
    syn: dissuade       ant: further; encourage; persuade

  4. loathe verb to regard with intense dislike, disgust, or hatred; to detest
    Max loathed getting up so early for work.
    syn: deplore         ant: adore

  5. loquacious adj. very talkative
    Bob always felt he could have had a better relationship with Becky if he had only been more loquacious or she less so.
    syn: garrulous       ant: quiet, reserved, taciturn

  6. luscious adj. very appealing to the senses
    The peaches were extremely luscious and refreshing.

  7. refurbish verb to brighten or to freshen up
    After five years they decided to refurbish the room which had gotten rather seedy-looking.

  8. relic noun an old object of historic or religious significance
    The vandals broke windows in the church and stole a priceless relic.

  9. repudiate verb disavow; to reject as untrue; to deny
    The state had to drop the case when their star witness repudiated his confession

  10. residual adj. left over as at the end of a process; remaining
    Although the killer had emptied the glass, the criminologist had been able to determine what had been in it from the residual material left at the bottom.

  11. unbridled adj. unrestrained, uncontrolled
    Those novels always speak of unbridled passion, like passion is some kind of force one cannot anticipate or control.

  12. uncouth adj. not refined; crude or boorish
    "That was very uncouth," she said, when he belched in public.
    syn: crass, coarse         ant: polite; suave, sophisticated

  13. unscathed adj. not harmed or injured
    He walked away from the car wreck unscathed.

  14. zealot noun. a person who is intensely or fanatically devoted to a cause
    Frank believed so strongly in his religion that other members labeled him a zealot.

  15. zenith noun the highest point; the peak
    The game in which he hit four home runs marked the zenith of his career.
