Graduation Rehearsal: Thursday, May 31 at 8:30 am
Graduation: Friday, June 1at 8:00 pm*
Graduation will be Played Back on TV on AISD TV- Time-Warner Arlington Cable Channel 98, AT&T U-Verse 99, as well as "Live Webcast" through the AISD website.
SHHS Playback times: June 4 & 11, 2012: 10am, 2pm, 5pm, & 8pm
*DVDs of graduations will be available for purchase from the school owned "Spirit Threads" store at the Parks Mall (817.375.0738) beginning June 6 for $25 plus tax.

Gabriela S. Wins Third place in the Senior Scholarship Art Show
Many congratulations go to Gabriela, who placed third in the recent Senior Scholarship Art Show, sponsored by the Arlington Arts League.
Gabriela recently also attended an awards banquet with her teacher, Mr. John Bodine at the PDC in recognition of her achievement. We are extremely proud of Gabriela and our entire Art department for their continuous creative designs!

SHHS Track Heads to Regional Qualifying Meet
Members of the SHHS Track team recently traveled to Saginaw on April 20th to compete in the Regional Qualifying meet. Congratulations to these wonderful athletes!


Members of the SHHS Track Qualifying team include: Ebonie H. in the 300 Herdles and the 4x100 relay, Jessica H. - Shotput, Serena B.-100m 100m hurdles, Tauriah Stubblefield-4x400 relay, Sarah M. - 4x100 relay, KaJuan W. - 110 m hurdles, Darrion F. --100 meter, Jameelah B. -4x100 m Relay / 100m dash, Halley P. - 4x100m Relay, Long Jump, 200m Dash.

SHHS Men's Soccer Advances to Third Round in State Playoffs
The Sam Houston Men's Soccer team has been long standing a team of success and playoff advancement. This year our team had an outstanding playoff run to the third round, ending on April 10th in a 2-1 loss against El Paso Bel Air.
The Texans finished their season with an incredible fight to the end, with several team members earning recognition for their individual capabilities and performance.

Tex-Annes Take Home Several Awards From Competition
This past weekend on March 24-25th, the Sam Houston Tex-Anne Drill Team competed in the Showtime Nationals competition in Galveston, TX and returned with several awards in the in the Medium Team category.
The awards include:
- 4th Place Officer Jazz
- 3rd Place Officer Lyrical
- 4th Place Officer Modern
- 3rd Place Team Novelty
- 3rd Place Team Military
- 1st Place Team Modern

TCU Community Scholar
Sam Houston is proud to announce that Julio S. was a recipient of the TCU Community Scholar Award! Julio is the recipient of a full academic scholarship to TCU with an estimated value of $192,000!!!!

Textile Production Winner
The Textile Production Class attended the Fashion Career Day Conference in Houston recently. The students made garments to enter for scholarship money. Brenda T. won 1st place and received a $1500 cash scholarship and $50 gift card! Many congrats to our Textile Production students!

Anti-Bullying Contest Winners
Sam Houston recently held a contest for art students to produce images to promote an anti-bullying campaign. Many of our art students produced spectacular pieces to help promote awareness of bullying and promote turning against it. Our Ready Set Teach! students recently did an excellent job representing SHHS & AISD at the annual TAFE State Conference in San Antonio.

HOSA Students Advancing to State Conference/Competition
Congratulations to our two HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) students who will advance to the State Conference to be held March 29-31. Marquetta W. placed 1st in her event of Personal Care and Bridgette T. placed 3rd in her event of Sports Medicine. These ladies were outstanding representatives of Sam Houston & Arlington ISD.

Orchestra Has UIL Success
The SHHS Orchestra recently had successful results at the UIL Solo & Ensamble Contest. Out of 32 entries, the orchestra brought home 17 1st Division medals, & 11 2nd Division medals collectively. Breana B. & Victor V. were certified to advance to the State Competition at the University of Texas later this spring. Many Congrats to our Orchestra!

Art Department Donates Work to Charity Auction
Sam Houston students Edna N. Rasheda T. and Jazzmin F. used the handprints of the Royal Family Campers to create artwork to be donated to the Heart & Soul Charity Auction in an effort to raise funds for activities for abused children of North Texas. Recently, the artwork was auctioned off for $500.

First Choice Power Awards Sam Houston High School Grant to help save money, energy by installing energy-efficient upgrades
First choice power is helping Sam Houston High School save money on its energy bills by awarding two Reduce Your Use Grants that our school will use to purchase equipment in the Science department.
The grants were awarded to two fantastic Science teachers: Frank Elia and Thomas Holster.
