About Sam Houston's National Honor Society

The name of our organization is the Sam Houston Chapter, National Honor Society. Our meetings are the first Thursday of every month at 7:00am in the Little Theatre.

National Honor Society is a service organization and our main long term service project is tutoring elementary children at our feeder elementary schools. Students tutor one hour a week, every week of the school year. In addition to this, members must earn 30 service points each semester, as well as keeping up their grades.

Membership in NHS is not based solely on grade point average, but also on character, leadership, and service qualities. Members are chosen by a faculty council based on information that is submitted to the council from an application form.

National Honor Society's main fundraiser is the selling of carnations at Valentine's Day. This activity funds our induction in the fall and graduation necessities in the spring.

It is an honor and a privilege to be a member of National Honeor Society and we hope more and more students aspire to become members. In 2009, SHHS had over 100 NHS members.
