Financial Aid Night February 13
Sam Houston will host a free Financial Aid Night, February 13th in the Little Theatre.
Come get help on how to apply for financial aid to go to college. Information will be provided on grants, and hear everything you need to know about FASFA. Contact the College & Career Center at 682.867.0183 for more info.
The event will be from 6:30 - 8:00 pm

AISD to Host Community Resource Fair
A Community Resource Fair will be held on Monday, February 27th at the Professional Development Center from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This event is a collaborative effort sponsored by Dropout Prevention, Special Education, Title I & Family Involvement, and Bilingual/ESL. Over 75 vendors throughout the community are anticipated to be present, featuring resources for employment, college readiness, ESL classes, transistional living, mental health, advocacy, recreation & leisure. this event is open to all students and parents in the district.

SHHS Wrestling Takes District Meet By Storm
Recently, both the Mens and Womens Wrestling teams representing SHHS experienced great success at the district meet on February 3rd. After much commitment, training, and team effort, our Women's team became District Champs, and the Men's Wrestling now has two wrestlers advancing to the UIL Region 2 meet later this month. Congratulations to both of our Wrestling teams!

Art Department Donates Work to Charity Auction
Sam Houston students Edna N. Rasheda T. and Jazzmin F. used the handprints of the Royal Family Campers to create artwork to be donated to the Heart & Soul Charity Auction in an effort to raise funds for activities for abused children of North Texas. Recently, the artwork was auctioned off for $500.

First Choice Power Awards Sam Houston High School Grant to help save money, energy by installing energy-efficient upgrades
First choice power is helping Sam Houston High School save money on its energy bills by awarding two Reduce Your Use Grants that our school will use to purchase equipment in the Science department.
The grants were awarded to two fantastic Science teachers: Frank Elia and Thomas Holster.

Letter to Parents About STAAR Testing
A letter to parents will be sent out with freshmen students on January 13, 2012 regarding the changes in how a semester average for a class is calculated due to the implementation of the STAAR assessment.

Take Time to Prepare for the TAKS

SHHS will be offering a variety of free Saturday TAKS prep sessions on campus from January 21st until April 21st to make sure all of our students are fully prepared to do their best on the upcoming exams. Snacks and prizes will be offered to students who join and participate! All sessions will be from 8:30am-10:30am and meet in Commons B.
