Family & Consumer Science Courses

Human Services

Personal and Family Development: This course is designed to address basic knowledge and skills related to personal development, management, and preparatin for adult roles.

Nutrition and Food Science: This course concentrates on nutrition, food choices, and food management skills for individuals and the family throughout the life cycle.

Food Science and Technology: This is a course for students interested in pursuing a career as a chef, dietitian, or other field related to food science, technology, and nutrition. The course addresses food science principls, nutrition and wellness.

Child Development: This course is designed to focus on knowledge and skills related to the development, care, guidance, and protection of children.

Individual and Family Life: This course is designed to focus on personal development, interpersonal relationships (include dating), effective individual and family functiong, and career preparation-all within a changing society.

Parenting for School-Age Parents I&II: This course is designed to aid school-age parents/homeakers, including parent teenagers, in developing and coping skills to become productive citizens.

Food Production, Management, and Services: This course is offered at TCC for dual credit. It provides occupationally specific training in food production, management, and services in the area of quantity production.

Architecture and Construction

Interior Design: This course focuses on the design of interior environments to achieve well-being and productivity for the occupants. Content addresses design practices and influences, space planning, lighting, materials, furnishings, and the impact of technology on the housing industry and career preparation.

Arts, A/V Technology & Communications

Apparel: Thsi project-oriented course focuses on apparel from the perspectives of personal decision making related to the apparel industry and career preparation.

Textiles and Apparel Design: This course will provide in-depth knowledge and skills in the design of textiles and apparel. Textile development, selection, use and the apparel industry from design to production to marketing will be covered.

Textile and Apparel Production, Management adn Services: (LHS)This lab course will address the textile and apparel industries, textile design and production and influences, and career preparation.

Education & Training

Ready Set Teach! I and II: Is a unique field-based internship which provides students with learning experiences in the field of education. A letter of commitment for future consideration of employment in AISD may be given to students who successfully complete this course as well as other established criteria.

Diversified Career Prep I & II: This is a work-based learning experience designed to provide classroom employment skill instruction as well as technical instruction and on-the-job training experiences in various employment areas.

Hospitality and Tourism

Hospitality Services I & II:(LHS) Combines classroom instruction with hands-on training in a hotel/restaurant environment. It prepares students for a career in the hospitality industry . Students will have the opportunity to take the ServSafe food safety certification exam.
