State Track Tournament
On Thursday, May 8th, 2008 the student body sent-off members of the Lady Cougar Track Team, coached by Katra Ridgeway and the Cougar Men's Track Team, coached by Michael Murphy to compete in the UIL State Track Tournament in Austin.

On Friday, May 2, 2008, Mr. Eric Evans was "honored" by the Class of 2008. Way to go Mr. Evans, your cups runneth over!

Four Cougar Fine Arts students have been selected to perform at the ALl-State level. Congratulations to Be T. (All State Orchestra), Andrew W. (All State Band), Anna J. (All State Mixed Choir), and Jennifer M. (All State Band).
Also, congratulations to Robert Poulin (Band Director), Melina Shaffer (Orchestra Director) and Thomas Rinn (Choir Director) for an outstanding year! Seguin truly has the best Fine Arts TEAM!!!
Mr. Funk - What's Up With the Truck?

National Signing Day - 2008
On Wednesday, February 6, 2008, Cougar Football athletes Hector N. and Deaundre B. signed their letters of intent to play college football. Deaundre will be playing for The University of Tulsa in Tulsa, OK and Hector will be playing for Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX.

Past Cougars Battle on Court
Cougar Class of 2006 alumnae Charity Ford (Arkansas) and Allison Hightower (LSU) played together on the court during their years at Juan Seguin High School.
On January 10th, both women played against each other in Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Pictured is Charity Ford - Arkansas Guard and Allison Hightower (right) - LSU Guard during the match. Ultimately, LSU won the match 76-54.
Charity Ford - High School Career: (Source: Arkansas Athletics) A standout player for Courtney Phillips at Arlington’s Juan Seguin High, Ford averaged 17 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.7 apg and 4.0 spg her senior season for SHS. While Ford was a part of one of the highest scoring backcourts in the state of Texas, Seguin allowed only 39.2 ppg in the regular season and finished undefeated in district play. She was ranked the No. 13 prospect in the state of Texas by TexasHoops.com her senior season. As a junior, Ford averaged 18 ppg, 4.5 apg and 2.3 spg as the co-MVP of District 7-AAAA. Ford’s high school best was 44 points against Mansfield High. Along with four years of basketball, Ford was also a track letterwinner at SHS. She played AAU basketball with DFW Elite.

Allison Hightower - High School Career: (Source: LSU Athletics) Averaged 21.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 6.0 steals and 5.0 assists per game during her career at Juan Seguin High School for head coach Courtney Phillips ... Finished as Seguin's all-time leading scorer with 2,182 points in three seasons ... Helped her school to a 28-0 District 7-4A record during her last two seasons, leading Seguin to the state regional finals ... Earned WBCA and McDonald's All-American honors as a senior ... Started for the West team in the McDonald's All-American game and scored nine points, grabbed nine rebounds, had two assists, two blocks and four steals in the victory ... Also started in the WBCA All-Star game and finished with five points, five rebounds and two steals ... Played in the WBCA game and against her in the McDonald's game ... Won the three-point shooting contest at the McDonald's All-American festivities in San Diego ... Named second-team Parade All-American and sixth-team Street & Smith's All-American as a senior ... A two-time Dallas Morning News All-Area first-team selection ... Named district MVP in both 2005 and 2006 ... Member of the 2005 USA Youth Development Festival Team that earned the silver medal in 2005 ... Invited to the U18 USA Basketball team trials this summer ... Also starred for the track team at Juan Seguin and won the 4A state title in the high jump.

Student ID's for Second Semester
Upon returning for the second semester, all students must wear their permanent identification badge around their neck in clear view. Students who do not have an ID, may purchase a 1-day temporary ID from their Assistant Principal's office for $1.00. Students who are unable to locate their permanent ID must purchase a new ID in the library for $5.00.
New Superintendent Visits JSHS
On Wednesday, January 9th, new AISD Superintendent, Hector Montenegro visited Juan Seguin High School for the first time. Mr. Montenegro, former Superintendent of Ysleta ISD, visited the campus for about 45 minutes and met with the administrators, counselors, and several students and teachers.
Mr. Montenegro also had the opportunity to visit the Learning Lab, a program that is unique to Juan Seguin High School.
