Meeting Times -- 3rd period - room A209

Academic Coach -- Ms. Collins
Assistant Academic Coach -- Mr. Blanchard

The Academic Decathlon is design to include students from all acedemic backgrounds. Each nine-member team consists of three A students, three B students, and three C students. In addition to a seven-minute interview, a one-hour essay, and two speeches (four minutes prepared and two minutes impromptu), there are written comprehensive exams given for music, art, language/literature, mathematics, economics, (social) science, and the Super Quiz.

Quiz League

The Quiz League is comprised of four students from Seguin against four students from another school (we have more than that on the team, so they rotate).  They answer questions from a wide array of subjects by buzzing in.  Each match consists of two rounds of ten minutes each; the team with the most points at the end of the round wins that round. It encourages students to bone up on general knowledge and application questions, which is not only fun but helps in preparations for the SAT and ACT.  If you need to know anything else, let us know!

Super Quiz

The final event is the Super Quiz relay. All students assemble in a gymnasium setting, as one student from each school reports to the floor to be tested. Five questions are asked of this group of students. Then, a second wave of students particiipate, then a third, and so on, until nine rounds are completed (three A, three B, and three C rounds). As answers an given and scores change, the students get excited and cheer for all-out academic effort.
