WELCOME to 1st grade!
Our goal is to make first grade a happy learning experience for your child. This requires the combined efforts of the
teacher, the parents, and the child. Good habits developed in first grade will carry through in your child's education,
as well as in his life. Children whose parents are involved in their educations are more likely to be successful in school,
so we hope that you will join us is making your child's first grade year a great one! |

Communication
Please ask to see your child's work and take-home folder each day. Go over the papers as a learning time, have your
child complete any homework assignments, and check/sign the citizenship calendar. The use of this folder is an
important stage in developing your child's organizational skills. He/She is responsible for taking the folder home
each day, making sure you see/sign it, and for returning the folder to school the next day. Please feel free to
add your comments to the page. |

Attendance
It is very important that your child be at school every day. Learning is a process that is built upon day by day, and
good attendance will help your child's performance. Please have your child at school early enough to be in the
classroom by 8:10 AM. It is your responsibility to call the school office at 682-867-3800 before 10:00 AM if your child
is going to be absent. The school also has an answering machine for after-hours calls. |
| |
Lunch
We eat lunch each day from 10:30 - 11:00 AM. Please feel free to join your child for lunch in the cafeteria at some
time during the year. This is a special treat for the children. Adult lunches are $2.25. Student lunches are $1.50,
and milk may be purchased separately for $.25. |
| |
Supplies
Please check with your child periodically to be sure he/she has the needed school supplies. Children are expected to
have pencils, a large eraser, crayons, scissors, and glue at all times. Also, please be sure your child's backpack, lunch
box, and jackets are marked with the child's name. |
| |
School Parties
First grade has 3 parties each year. The teacher and the room mother plan the parties together. Our parties are held
at Christmas, Easter, and End-of-Year. Please do not have your child bring birthday invitations to individual students.
When each child does not receive one, feelings are easily hurt. |

Texas Readers Club
Reading is a very important part of your child's life. We hope that all of you read to your children regularly at home.
Please be sure to record books that you read to your child, or that your child reads to you on his/her Ten Books
List. Texas Readers Awards are given out at the final Awards Day in May to children who have brought in their book
lists. |

Miscellaneous
Don't forget to stop by the office and get a visitor's pass each time you come into the school. We think you'll agree
that our children's safety is very important to all of us. Also, if you pick your child up early, you must sign him/her out
in the office, and the office will call the teacher. Please do not go to the room to pick up your child. Children will not
be signed out after 3:00 PM due to the heavy traffic in the office.
Please feel free to contact your child's teacher at any time. You may put a note in the folder or call the office and
leave a message. We ask that you not come to the room before school, because we are busy with our students. |
