Q. Is the curriculum at Venture School the same as it is at the home schools?

A. The curriculum is the same. The difference is that a student works through at his/her own pace. Although a student is required to work at a minimum pace, a student may work through the material at a faster rate. Venture is also a content mastery school, which means that all material must be completed successfully. If a student fails, he/she must either correct the assignment or complete an alternate assignment until he/she has a passing grade on the material.

Q. Can a student be sent to Venture for disciplinary reasons?

A. A student may not be sent to Venture for disciplinary reasons. Venture is a school of choice. A student must first submit an application in order to be considered for enrollment and must meet one of the at-risk criteria to be accepted as a Venture student.

Q. What are the at-risk criteria?

A. There are numerous criteria for being considered at-risk, but some of the most common include the following: being pregnant or a parent; having failed two or more core classes in the current or preceding year; having been reported to the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) as a high school drop out. Venture administrators can provide more details if needed.

Q. How quickly can a student recover credits and catch up with his/her class?

A. Since the program is self-paced, there is no definitive answer to this question. It depends on the student's willingness to work; however, the average Venture student earns approximately six credits per year.

Q. Can a student participate in extra-curricular activities while attending Venture?

A. Venture has no organized extra-curricular activities; however, a student may speak to the Venture counselor to see if it is feasible to attend Venture classes and participate in extra-curricular activities at his/her home school.
