Boundary Changes for West

The AISD School Board has been aware of the overcrowded conditions at West.  Although a new elementary will probably be built on the Highway 360 corridor, the school will not be built for several years.  Meanwhile, the Board knows that it is necessary to reduce the number of students at West for the 2010-2011 school year.

A committee will be formed of West parents and parents from Starrett Elementary to re-draw the boundary lines for these two schools.  Parents who are interested in serving on this committee should call Ms. George, principal at West, to indicate their interest in serving on the committee.  Since current sixth graders will not be affected by a boundary change, only parents of current PreK through 5th grade students are asked to volunteer.

The first meeting of West and Starrett parents will be held at West Elementary on Monday, December 7, 2009, at 7 PM.  Additional meetings as needed will be scheduled after that.

The goal is to have a plan in place so that the AISD School Board can approve the changes by the February 4, 2010 school board meeting.

Report Cards Coming Home

Friday, November 20

Time is passing very quickly!  The report cards for the second six weeks are coming home with students tomorrow!  Kindergarten and First Grade parents will be getting the report for the first twelve weeks.

Please review the report card with your child.  Discuss with them what they are doing well and in what areas they could do better.  If you want to go a step further, here are some suggestions:

1.       Write down the goals for improvement

2.       Discuss how those goals will be accomplished

3.       Decide when progress will be checked again to determine if the recorded goals are being accomplished

4.       Throughout the six weeks, ask to see your child’s Daily Communicator with homework recorded on the back.  If you are not getting the information that you need as a parent, contact your child’s teacher and discuss your concerns.

Do not wait until the end of the year to become involved!
