HISTORY OF OUR SCHOOL

    Wood Elementary School was opened in January 1980.  The school is named after Roy and Louise Wood of Arlington. Louise Wood taught in Arlington at South Davis and Hill Elementary Schools. She retired in 1974 after many years of dedicated service. Roy Wood began with the Arlington School System in 1949 as principal of West Side School and was also principal at Berry Elementary.  He served as superintendent of Finance from 1954 to 1978.  He retired after 39 years and was recognized for his outstanding financial management.

The mission of Wood Elementary is to ensure that all students acquire the skills, knowledge, and behaviors necessary for productive living in a changing, democratic, multicultural society by providing a nurturing, accepting, and safe environment.
