Future 9th Graders' Registration Information
On Monday & Tuesday (the 23rd & 24th of January), the Young JHS and Martin HS counselors spent an hour with every student going over the freshmen registration process. They should have brought home to you a large booklet with all their possible course options for the next four years as well as instructions on how to sign up for these classes.
Unlike previously in their school careers, all courses will be chosen by the student and their parents/guardians online through a website called Career Cruising! It will not be done through the Young counselors.
If you would like to view the information sheet they received, please click on the link below:
On February 28th, the Martin HS counselors will be back at Young to view and finalize the course selections with each eighth grader. Again, the deadline to have this done is February 27th, so that the counselors can finalize this on the 28th.
And don't forget that this Wednesday, February 1st @ 6:30, Martin is having Future Fish Night! This is a fantastic opportunity for incoming freshmen and their parents to ask questions and tour the campus, so don't miss out!
Thank you! |

YJH Stop, Drop and Read Program/40-Book Challenge
This reading program encourages our Eagles to read books and will be implemented during Advisory Period. Students will bring a library book to Advisory EACH Wednesday and will read for the entire Advisory time.
Each advisory teacher will give students a copy of the 40 -BOOK CHALLENGE CHART (to be kept in their binder) AND a copy of the READING LOG for each book the student reads.
When a student completes one of the books in a category on the chart, they will give their Reading Log and Chart to the teacher. The teacher will initial the appropriate box on the chart and staple or paperclip the Reading Log to the chart and give it back for the student to keep. When the student has completed reading all 40 books, has all 40 squares initialed, and has completed all 40 reading logs, the student will turn in the chart and 40 reading logs to Mr. Harmon in the library for prizes from the PTA.
The student may then request another chart to start again. Students must read books they have not previously read.
Students will initially go to the library to check out books through their 7 th grade Speech or AVID class /8 th grade English class. Students must have a pink pass from their advisory teacher to be admitted into the library to recheck books or check out another book.
