Academic Decathlon is a honors elective class that provides students with a unique opportunity to learn valuable qualities such as independent study, interviewing skills, and public speaking.  The students get a specific topic each year, and they study the economics, music, art, science, history, and literature that pertains to the theme. Past topics include Imperialism, Russia, Cold War, and World War I.

Making the Academic Decathlon team requires dedication, but it is also a fun, rewarding experience.

The Academic Decathlon is designed to include students of three academic levels. Each nine-member team consists of three "A" students, three "B" students and three "C" students, perhaps never before motivated, perform the best. The Academic Decathlon is the only competition to award "C" students scholarships.

Students can obtain medals as a team and individually in each subject.   Our regional competition is in late January.  The teams that go to state compete in late February.  AHS has gone to state eleven out of the last fifteen years.
