Each teacher is expected to communicate his or her grading policy and how grades are weighted in his/her class. Teachers will take an adequate number of grades each six weeks in order to fairly evaluate the student's learning. A six weeks exam or a unit test may be administered as part of the final six weeks grade. Benchmark test performance may also be used as part of a six weeks average.
Semester grades will be computed as follows: multiply each six weeks grade by two, add the semester exam grade and divide by seven. The result will be a semester grade with a final exam weighted approximately 15%. All junior high schools will administer a written semester exam in every course offered in the curriculum, including electives, boys and girls athletics, PE, etc.
A student's grade in academic areas will not be altered because of his/her behavior. Behavior will be reflected in the Citizenship grade on the report card. The junior high student's citizenship grade will be based on the following.
- acceptance of responsibility
- courtesy of speech and manners
- respect for the rights of other
- care o property
- good use of time
- following directions
- observation of rules of behaviors
Student Reports & Recognition
Progress reports are sent home with students during the fourth week of each six weeks. They reflect the grade average at the end of the third week. It is very important that students be responsible in delivering progress reports and report cards promptly. Parents should monitor their student's progress and behavior in class.
Report cards are sent home with students the week following the end of each six weeks. Report Cards are mailed after the final six weeks is over. It is important that parents keep us informed of address changes. In accurate demographic information will result in students not receiving a final report card.
Teachers shall report academic grades numerically on report cards and in electronic records. Citizenship or conduct grades are expressed as letters.

Promotion to the Next Grade
In order to pass, an 8th grade student must have an overall average of 70, as well as a 70 average in Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. In the 7th grade at the end of the school year, a student must have a 70 average in both Math and Language Arts. Beginning with the 07-08 school year, all 8th grade students must pass Language Arts and Math TAKS tests or they will not be promoted to 9th grade.
In the 8th grade, students may replace a failing yearly class average grade in Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies with a passing TAKS score if the failing yearly class average grade is a 65 or above. In the 7th grade, students may replace a failing Math and Language Arts yearly class grade with a passing TAKS score in Reading, Writing and Math if the failing yearly class average grade is a 65 or above.
Extended year academic programs are available for students who do not succeed in class and/or fail TAKS during the regular school year.
At the end of each school year, students are recognized by their awards program for a variety of reasons. One way is by earning academic letters for outstanding grades. How do you earn these letters? Academic letters can be earned in the required subject area: English, math, science, and history. In order to receive an academic letter, a student must achieve a 95 overall average for the first through fifth six weeks, or a 92 overall average in honors classes. We hope to recognize many Bulldogs for their successes in the spring.
