Classroom in construction at Miller Elementary

Oct. 12, 2016 - Bond-funded construction is now underway at Miller and Little Elementaries. Demolition of areas to be renovated started at the end of September.

Continue reading for more details about the projects and schedules at each school. Due to the fluid nature of construction, these plans and schedules are subject to change.

The work at both schools is being managed by Balfour Beatty Construction, following plans by HKS Architects.

Little Elementary
The work is being phased throughout the year and into next summer to avoid disrupting school. The first projects this fall include renovations that will provide two STEM labs, repairs to the irrigation system and landscaping. Then over winter break, the roof and rooftop air conditioners on the K-pod will be replaced.

A number of other life-cycle and deficiency upgrades will be made throughout the school year, including replacing mechanical equipment, the sanitary sewer line, water coolers, emergency lighting and outlets. The fire alarm system will also be updated, the roof will be repaired and the parking lots will be restriped. All of these tasks will be completed when school is not in session, in the evenings or on weekends, or in cordoned-off areas. Construction workers will not be allowed in the same areas as students and student safety will always be the number one priority.

When the school year ends in June 2017, construction will continue into the summer. The strings room will be enlarged, a security vestibule will be added, the carpet in the K-pod will be replaced, and the rooftop HVAC system on the gymnasium will be replaced. The music room will also be updated by painting, carpeting and raising the ceiling.

Miller Elementary
The work at Miller is also being phased throughout the year and into next summer to avoid disrupting school. The first projects this fall include renovations that will give the school two STEM labs and a strings room, repairs to the irrigation system and the addition of 30 parking spaces in the north parking lot.

The roof and rooftop air conditioners of the K-pod will be replaced over fall break. The break will also give workers the opportunity to begin putting in a security vestibule at the front of the building. That work will continue through the winter break.
