AISD reports on HUB commitment to Board of Trustees

(HUB presentation begins at 56:00)

Feb. 23, 2018 - Cindy Powell, AISD chief financial officer, gave the AISD Board of Trustees an update on the district's HUB (Historically Underutilized Business) commitment at last week's board meeting.

At the outset of the AISD's 2014 Bond program, the AISD's Board of Trustees expressed a desire to encourage HUB participation in bond-funded construction projects. As a result, the AISD began encouraging and tracking HUB participation.

As of December 2017, HUB participation in construction and design of bond-funded facility projects was 17.5 percent of all paid work, representing $54,100,294. That number is expected to rise as more work is completed and paid for.

"We won't know for certain the outcome until all the projects are done," Powell said.

"What we have observed over the last three and a half to four years is that these efforts have yielded a positive result in participation of HUB subcontractors and sub-consultants in our program."

The AISD tracks all HUB participation and presents the results quarterly to the Citizen Bond Oversight Committee. The reports are also posted on the AISD bond website.
