Aug. 9, 2018 - Twenty new school buses – with a total price tag over $2 million – were ordered this year as part of the 2014 Bond program.
To date, 12 of the 20 Blue Bird and International buses have been delivered, 3 regular education buses and 9 special education buses. The delivery of the remaining eight – all special ed buses – is expected by Sept. 1. All 20 buses include three-point seatbelts for student passengers.
The arrival of the final eight will put the total number of 2014 Bond-purchased buses at 99, representing four of the five phases in the bond program. The final phase includes another 16 buses, which will be ordered later in the fall or early spring.
The new bond-funded buses help replace aging ones, add to the AISD fleet and offer many improvements, including better safety features. They also all have air conditioning and have replaced the last of the district’s buses that did not.
The AISD’s bus fleet now has 248 total buses, 65 diesel and 183 propane.
