Aug. 9, 2018 (updated Oct. 1, 2018) - Twenty new school buses – with a total price tag over $2 million – were ordered this year as part of the 2014 Bond program.

The last eight of the 20 new Blue Bird and International buses were delivered in September, for a total of three regular education buses and 17 special education buses. All 20 buses include three-point seatbelts for student passengers.

The total number of buses ordered though the 2014 Bond now stands at 99, representing four of the five phases in the bond program. The final phase includes another 16 buses, which will be ordered later in the fall or early spring.

The new bond-funded buses help replace aging ones, add to the AISD fleet and offer many improvements, including better safety features. They also all have air conditioning and have replaced the last of the district’s buses that did not.

The AISD’s bus fleet now has 248 total buses, 65 diesel and 183 propane.
