Drive-through awards parade on Saturday

More than 700 Arlington ISD third-eighth graders, representing 48 schools, are set to be honored today as finalists and winners in the 15th annual What’s Your Big Idea? entrepreneurial contest.

Sponsored by the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce, this contest asked students to unleash their biggest ideas – to imagine, create and invent a new product or business that makes a mark on the world. Elementary and junior high students submitted their big ideas in an essay or through art.

Normally the Chamber of Commerce throws a big awards ceremony at the University of Texas at Arlington’s College Park Center, but the ceremony this year, like last year, will be virtual due to COVID-19. All finalists will get to see their name recognized in the virtual ceremony, and the top winners – 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each grade level and category – will be announced.

The virtual event will stream today, April 21, at 5 p.m. on the Arlington ISD YouTube page. Visit aisd.net tomorrow to find the link. The ceremony will include a message from the mayor, the announcement of the top participating campuses, the list of finalists and the announcement of the top winners.

All finalists and winners will then get to pick up their medals and awards on Saturday, April 24, in a car parade through UTA’s campus. If you are a finalist or parent and need more details on the drive-through awards pickup, please click here.
