I teach upper level US History mostly to juniors.  Consequently the focus is two-fold: one, to get the get prepared to pass the Texas End-of-Course Test so they can graduate; two, prepare AP students to take the College Board – AP US History test.  Among the goals, are to provide strategies for taking college level tests, primarily essay writing while incorporating historical themes in their essays. The most important focus on this course is helping students develop critical reading and thinking skills so they can apply that knowledge into a variety of assessments.

The IB History course is a 2-year program. (11th -12th grade) international curriculum. The culmination of the 2 year history program focuses in year 1 on the Americas (US, Canada, Latin America) from 1880-1981.  Year 2, the senior year international curriculum focuses on 20th century wars that involve the United States.  In addition, students will take a series of 3 IB exams (called Papers), all are essays. Both years focus on helping students develop critical reading and thinking skills so they can transfer that knowledge into comprehensive essays.
