(Pages 26 &#8211; 72)<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Recommended sequencing for Mathematics and Science<\/strong> &#8211; (Page 7-8)<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Advanced Placement Program<\/strong> &#8211; The Pre AP and AP courses offered seek to provide the more academically talented students with opportunities for creative thinking and problem solving.\u00a0 The goal of the program is to challenge and stimulate the students to the highest level of their abilities\u2026quality of work, rather than quantity of work, is emphasized. (Page 19)<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Career and Technology<\/strong> &#8211; Career and Technology Education provides active learning that contributes to occupational knowledge and skills that are necessary for success in the workplace or in post-secondary education. (Page 13)<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Comprehensive Special Education<\/strong> &#8211; Special Education provides supportive services designated by a student&#8217;s Individual Education Plan.\u00a0 Emphasis is placed upon remediation of learning deficits teaching functional academic skills, and promoting the development of social, pre-vocational, and vocational skills that ensure successful integration into the community, higher education, and the world of work. (Page 13-14)<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>ESL Program and Sheltered Courses<\/strong> &#8211; These courses are available for students with limited English proficiency (LEP) who are in the English as a Second Language program (ESL).\u00a0 Teachers use strategies and accommodations based on the student&#8217;s individual language proficiency. (Page 13-14)<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Fine Arts<\/strong> &#8211; The Fine Arts Program will engage the student&#8217;s imagination, foster creative thinking, develop discipline, and build self-confidence.\u00a0 Students will develop an appreciation for the arts, whether through participation or observation. (Page 12)<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Technology Applications<\/strong> &#8211; Technology applications focuses on creating, accessing, manipulating, utilizing, communicating, and publishing information during the learning process. Through the use of computers.<\/p>\r\n<h2>TESTING<\/h2>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.khanacademy.org\/digital-sat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">College Board | Khan Academy free SAT Prep<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>STAAR<\/strong> &#8211; The STAAR program at grades 3-8 will assess the same grades and subjects as are assessed on TAKS. For high school, general subject-area TAKS tests will be replaced with twelve STAAR end-of-course (EOC) assessments.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>PSAT<\/strong> &#8211; The PSAT\/NMSQT measures reading, math, and writing skills.\u00a0 The exam serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and is given once a year in mid-October, free of charge, to interested students, grades 9-11.\u00a0 The PSAT will also provide practice for the SAT.\u00a0 Registration on site at MHS.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>SAT <\/strong>&#8211; Standardized college admissions exam.\u00a0 An &#8220;aptitude&#8221; type test that measures the student&#8217;s reasoning and critical thinking skills. Areas of evaluations: Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing.\u00a0 The SAT is best suited for students with strong reasoning skills.\u00a0 Registration, test sites, and dates are available at:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegeboard.com\/student\/testing\/sat\/calenfees.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.collegeboard.com<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>ACT<\/strong> &#8211; Standardized college admissions exam.\u00a0 A curriculum based test that measures the student&#8217;s knowledge of subject matter covered in high school.
