As we go through the school year, it isn’t inconceivable that your child may become ill. As parents and guardians, you know your children best; if they don’t seem well, they probably aren’t-keep them home and consult a health care professional if necessary.<\/p>\n

During the year, please keep all emergency phone numbers current in the clinic-your child may need you!!<\/p>\n

Keep Your Child Home When:<\/h2>\nThe child has a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 37.7 degrees Celsius or higher
\nThe child has diarrhea or vomiting
\nThe child has a rash of unknown origin
\nThe child has red, runny eyes or wakes up with eyes “glued” shut (early symptoms of “pink eye”)
\nThe child complains of ear pain with or without fever\n

Your Child May Return When:<\/h2>\nThe child is fever free for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol or other fever reducer
\nThe child is free of diarrhea and vomiting for 24 hours
\nYou have consulted a health care professional*
\nYou have consulted a health care professional for the appropriate antibiotic therapy*
\nYou have consulted a health care professional for appropriate care*\n

*Upon returning to school, the child must bring a signed release from the health care professional to the school nurse’s office or report to the nurse free of symptoms<\/p>\n

REMEMBER: Medications must be kept in the school clinic with a doctor’s and a parent’s signature authorizing permission for dispensing the medication, including cough drops and other over the counter medicines. Click here for the authorization form.<\/p>\n

Texas State Law Requires Immunizations Against the Following Diseases:<\/h2>\n

DPT, DTaP, DT, Td<\/h3>\n

5 doses of any combination unless the 4th dose was given on or after 4th birthday. Age 7 years or older: 3 doses of any combination, including one on or after 4th birthday. (Pertussis not required.) 1 dose of Td required 10 years after last dose of DTP\/DTaP\/DT.<\/p>\n

POLIO<\/h3>\n

4 doses unless the 3rd dose was given on or after the 4th birthday.<\/p>\n

MEASLES, MUMPS, RUBELLA (MMR)<\/h3>\n

2 doses of a measles-containing vaccine:1st dose on or after 1st birthday. 2nd dose by age 5 or entry into kindergarten.<\/p>\n

HAEMOPHILUS INFLUENZA TYPE b (Hib)<\/h3>\n

3 doses before or 1 dose after age 15 months to 5 years or U.S. doctor’s certificate stating student had disease. NOT REQUIRED AFTER AGE 5.<\/p>\n

HEPATITIS B<\/h3>\n

3 doses for children in grades K-11 in 2005-06. 3 doses for children in grades K-12 in 2006-07.<\/p>\n

VARICELLA (CHICKENPOX)<\/h3>\n

1 dose on or after 1st birthday (or parent-validated history of chickenpox illness) for children in grades K-5 and 7-11 in 2005-06.1 dose on or after 1st birthday (or parent-validated history of chickenpox illness) for children in grades K-12 in 2006-07.<\/p>\n

Two doses are required if vaccine is given @ 13 years of age or older. (Serologic confirmation of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, or varicella or serologic evidence of infection is acceptable in lieu of vaccine.)<\/p>\n

Immunizations may be obtained from a local doctor or clinic.<\/p>\n
