    At-Home Learning Summer Enrichment

    Grades K-12: Access the activities listed below. For more resources, navigate to the Student Hub https://www.aisd.net/students/at-home-learning/student-hub/ to access the PK-12 Summer Learning which provides additional resources for ELA, math, science, and social studies.

    Research shows that social skills can be taught and practiced. This page will provide you a way to determine what to focus on for your child. We suggest engaging in one or two enrichment activities daily.

    Self-Awareness

    We have learned that emotions are natural and valid and that all emotions are okay. We learned to identify and accept our emotions. Watch a favorite movie together and use these strategies to talk about it:  Pause, ask how the character is feeling, and name the feeling. 

    Self-Management

    We learn at school about strategies to boost our feelings when we’re feeling stress. Some of these strategies include deep breathing, thinking happy thoughts, listening to music, coloring, or going outside.  Listen together to the story Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, by Judith Viorst and illustrated by Ray Cruz and talk about Alexander’s difficulties and what he could do to manage his emotions. Books help children not only see strategies for overcoming the difficult times, but also that difficulties are a part of life. Listen to the book being read at  https://youtu.be/h6rp0SZX7lg

    Relationship Skills

    Our relationships are perhaps the most important thing that any of us have in life and it is important to practice nurturing relationships. Students have been taught how to compliment others. You can practice these skills at home with the following activities:

    • When someone in your family does something good, prompt your child to give him/her a compliment such as “Great job washing the car Dad” or “Congrats on your volleyball game sis – great job!”.
    • Prompt your child to give compliments to people in your family and in the community. For instance, tell someone they are a good cook or tell someone that they look nice or tell someone that they are funny or smart.
    • For each person in your family, have your child make them each a compliment card. Use index cards and crayons and on 1 side have him/her write a compliment and who it is for such as “You are a good cook Dad” or “You are really nice Sis”. On the other side, have him/her draw a picture with the crayons. When done, have him/her pass out the compliment cards to members of the family.
