Citizen oversight committee meets to review bond progress

April 27, 2017 - The Citizens Bond Oversight Committee met last night for its quarterly review of the status and progress of the 2014 Bond program. Led by AISD Chief Financial Officer Cindy Powell, AISD staff gave updates on the various areas of the bond: fine arts; safety, security and technology; transportation; and facilities. AISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos also took time to thank the committee members for serving and to answer questions.

The meeting was held in the newly renovated library at Jones Academy of Fine Arts and Dual Language. Committee members received a tour of the building, guided by Principal Katiuska Herrador. The committee also got to see the new Outdoor Performance Area adjacent to the school, an amphitheater funded through a partnership with Texas Trust. The CBOC also received a presentation about AISD fine arts from AISD Fine Arts Director Dr. Jeremy Earnhart. He shared many of the exciting things going on with fine arts, including new dual-credit courses, outstanding success by the district's high school bands and orchestras, national recognition, planning for the future districtwide Fine Arts Center and more.

The CBOC will now prepare a report to go before the AISD Board of Trustees in June.
