Dec. 9, 2016 - The AISD Board of Trustees approved the guaranteed maximum price at last night's board meeting for a major ninth-grade addition and renovations at Sam Houston High School. Now the district will proceed with the construction projects designed by Huckabee Architects. Pogue Construction will serve as the construction manager.

Funds were included in the 2014 Bond program for condition improvements and upgrades to career/tech, fine arts spaces and athletics spaces. But during the project planning, AISD administration determined that additional spaces and renovations beyond those included in the bond program would be necessary in order to properly accommodate current and future enrollment at Sam Houston. The Board of Trustee's authorized the use of surplus 2009 Bond funds and surplus fund balance from the general fund, in addition to funds included in the 2014 Bond program, to provide the additional spaces needed to support the student enrollment.

Additions and renovations at Sam Houston are scheduled to begin in the winter of 2016 and substantial completion is expected in the summer of 2018. The addition will included a new cafeteria, kitchen and ninth-grade classroom wing. Other projects include roof repairs, mechanical and electrical upgrades and parking lot/fire lane improvements. The current cafeteria will be converted into classroom space.
