History

J.L Hill Elementary opened in the Fall of 1968 and was the 16th elementary school in Arlington.  Hill was named in honor of Mr. James Lee Hill, who had been the principal at Kooken Elementary School on Center Street for 27 years until he retired in 1964.   Hill's first principal, Mr. H.T Peacock, along with a committee of teachers chose the Scottish Terrier to be the Highlander mascot and the school colors to be green and gold.  The principals, staff and parents of Hill have started and carried on the great traditions that make us proud to be a part of the Highlander Nation.
