Dear Arlington ISD Family,
I want to make you aware of where the district stands as far as re-opening our campuses for students following last weekend's winter weather and the impact that had on the Arlington ISD. We are still conducting checks at every school to make sure they have sufficient power and water sources. After being closed today and Tuesday, all campuses will have virtual instruction Wednesday.
Impacted campuses
Of the 26 locations that we listed with damage on our winter weather page last week, we are concerned that nine of them might not be ready for in-person instruction by Thursday of this week. If your child attends one of those nine schools, we will be in touch with you with estimated opening dates and plans for instruction by Thursday, February 25. We realize the inconvenience this will cause families, but please know we are working as fast as we can to open schools safely.
Landing page
We are continually updating our winter weather page. You can find the latest information about the impacted campuses, what schools are serving food and a ton of community resources available for impacted families. If you need shelter, there are links to locations that can help. Also, there is a link for filing for FEMA help and for reporting damage to the state.
Report cards
If you haven't seen your child's grades for the fourth sixth weeks, it's okay. The grading period ended February 12 and report cards were supposed to be out last Friday. Because of the winter weather, report cards will now be available this Friday, February 26.
Meal service
Remember that students can receive meals at 15 different locations today and Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Students will receive lunch as well as a breakfast for the next morning. All meals are served cold and can be heated up at home. A list of the locations can be found here. We will update you again tomorrow on our meal plans moving forward.
I know this is a challenging time, but we can take some comfort in knowing that some of our schools that were damaged will be opening Thursday thanks to the hard work of our maintenance and operations staff. Thank you again for your continued patience and support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marcelo Cavazos
Superintendent

Atentamente,
Dr. Marcelo Cavazos

Dear Arlington ISD Parents and Guardians,
In the wake of another historic event, our schools have been impacted by the winter weather blast that hit the state of Texas. While the snow and ice are leaving, their impact and the cold weather are going to have a lasting effect.
Freezing temperatures have led to broken pipes and electrical issues that have left some of our schools with major flooding and power outages. Additionally, our community's water supply has been impacted. We must have safe water to run our schools, and right now, that's not the case. We know that many of the issues we're experiencing at our campuses mirror the ones that you're experiencing at your home. That's why we've decided to extend the school closures in Arlington ISD through Tuesday, February 23. That means there will be no in-person or virtual instruction for students either Monday, February 22, or Tuesday, February 23.
I realize this creates hardships for some of you who have already dealt with so much in the last year, but we must prioritize safety for everyone in the Arlington ISD community. Here is our plan moving forward.
REMOTE INSTRUCTION
We plan to return to virtual instruction on Wednesday, February 24 for all students. That will give our contractors and team members the first few days of the week to fully assess each school, make repairs and conduct inspections.
Log on to Canvas or SeeSaw to access your lessons.
We are hopeful to re-open as many schools as possible on Thursday, February 25 but we know it won't be possible for everyone. By Tuesday at noon, we will have a list of schools that can open and those that will remain closed for repairs.
NEW LANDING PAGE
To help you stay up-to-date on campus closures, we have created a new web page at www.aisd.net/winter-weather. You will find the status of the schools damaged and other resources to help us all get through this emergency.
STUDENT MEAL SERVICE
We will be offering student meals from 15 locations from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. All of those locations can be found at www.aisd.net/winter-weather. All the meals served will be cold meals that can be heated at home. Students will receive lunch as well as a breakfast for the next day.
That's where we stand now. As a district, we are working as hard as we can to re-open as safely as possible. We've asked you to remain patient a lot in the last year, and we're doing it again. We've endured plenty in our community and have gotten through the school year. We will do it again.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marcelo Cavazos
Superintendent

Dear Arlington ISD Parents and Guardians,
The Arlington ISD is closing all campuses - including Arlington Collegiate and Arlington College and Career high schools- for Tuesday, February 16, for all in-person and remote instruction.
We know that you're dealing with a combination of frigid weather, power outages and conserving electricity. We want you to be able to focus on the needs of your family until the weather passes.
We also understand that the cold snap, a chance for more inclement weather and power issues could lead to more changes to the schedule later in the week. We are constantly monitoring the situation and will keep you up-to-date on our website, email and through our social media feeds.
Please stay safe and warm.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marcelo Cavazos

Por favor mantente a seguro y abrigado.

Dear Arlington ISD Parents and Guardians,
All Arlington ISD classes will meet virtually Tuesday, February 16, because of inclement weather. Students will have online lessons with their teachers on Tuesday, and teachers will take attendance.
Teachers will communicate plans to students for synchronous (live) instruction. There will also be asynchronous (recorded) instructions available for students who cannot be online during the live teaching. Students can access those lessons on Seesaw (PreK-2nd) or Canvas (3rd-12th).
Because of the winter storm, there will be no student meal services Tuesday. All after-school activities, including athletics, have been postponed.
Please remember that Monday, February 15, is a student and staff holiday.
We know that more inclement weather could impact school for the remainder of the week. Please continue to check our website, email, and social media feeds for more details. Stay safe and warm.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marcelo Cavazos
