Blessed, excited beyond belief, and privileged only begin to describe how I feel about starting this adventure at the Arlington ISD Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center (CTC). One of the most rewarding opportunities of my career is being selected as one of the two counselors at the CTC. Having only returned to Texas and Arlington ISD’s Sam Houston High School two years ago as a counselor, I feel very fortunate to work with all of the students taking classes at the Career and Technical and Agricultural Science Centers. These centers will serve students by empowering them with career & collegiate skills, direction, and exposure to a wide variety of career pathways. My career in education has always focused on helping students reach their potential and pursue post-secondary goals, no matter which particular job title I have held. My career started as a high school Athletic Trainer, teaching both Sports Medicine and English classes more than 20 years ago. For the last nine years, I have worked as a Secondary School Counselor. I was fortunate as a UTA graduate to have gained my experience student teaching and through athletic internships here in Arlington ISD. From that point, I have augmented my career in various school districts and earned my Master’s in School Counseling at Midwestern State University. As a military wife, I have been blessed with career experiences in other American cities as well as overseas, in Germany. These amazing adventures taught me how similar all young people are, all working on developing a path to post-secondary successful citizenship and happiness. Luckily, I am allowed to help facilitate students’ growth and achievement academically and personally – who could ask for a better job than this?!
