SAVE THE DAY! School Picture Day is February 24th!
We will have a great system for our virtual learners that day as well to come up to school at a designated time and in a designated location to take their picture.
We just wanted to get the date out to everyone! We will send logistical information soon but save the date!
Our AMAZING Family Spotlight this morning is the precious Williams family! We love this family and their deep roots in our community. See below what makes them so unique!
Who you are! (kids at Hill, ages, grade) We are the Williams family! Jeff, Arryn, Cooper is 14 at AHS, Go Colts! Avery is 10 in 5th grade and Hads is 6 in 1st grade.
What do you and your family love about Hill? We love the intentionality that all Hill faculty and staff put into building relationships with not only the learners, but the families as well. Strong relationships have huge impacts in the classroom. We love that even in the middle of a pandemic our girls continue to find joy and feel safe at Hill. Their teachers have truly done an amazing job at rolling with ALL of the changes this year brought.
What is something unique about your family that no one might know about? Arryn and her brother actually attended Hill many years ago. She then worked as a kindergarten teaching assistant at Hill before finishing her education. Her mom also worked at Hill as the clerk for 15 years. Once a Highlander Always a Highlander ❤️
What has the pandemic been teaching your family? I know that this is an unpopular opinion, but we have loved 2020! It forced us to stop and appreciate each other in a way that we really wouldn’t have in a normal year. It has been especially neat to watch the deep bonds that are kids are creating between each other. This pandemic has taught us so much... We are resilient! We can all learn new, hard things. We can find the positives even in stressful times and though change may be hard sometimes it’s just what you needed, even if you didn’t know it!
How are you and your family still finding joy each day? We find joy each day by slowing down and taking the time to appreciate the small things. We find joy in the weekend camping trips that we take to nourish our souls and we continue to find joy in each other.... even on the hard days. 😉 ... See MoreSee Less

What is your favorite thing about teaching/working at Hill? I LOVE teaching 2nd grade! I love the students and seeing their amazing growth from the beginning to the end of the year. I love to see kids get excited about reading a new book or the proud look on their faces when they are sharing a story they have written. I feel so blessed to be at Hill! It is a wonderful place. You can feel the love in our Highlander community!
What is something unique about you that no one might know? I love to play tennis and have been playing since I was in elementary school.
What joy have you been finding amidst the Pandemic? Getting to spend time with my family makes me so happy! We have spent a lot of quality time at home and I love every minute of it.
What is saving your life right now? Taking time to exercise has been a huge lifesaver.

Our amazing Teacher Tuesday this week is Wendy Mumaw, kindergarten teacher here at Hill! Wendy is a phenomenal hybrid learning teacher and such a great addition to Hill! See what makes her so special!
1)That's easy, the kids! I have always enjoyed teaching little minds...the growth you see in a year is astounding. There are so many amazing qualities about children-they forgive quickly, have wonderful attitudes for learning, love sharing stories, have a great sense of humor, and love unconditionally! If everyone in the world could have the opportunity to spend the day with children, how blessed they would be! 2) Our family was a foster family for 3 1/2 years. We had 5 different foster kiddos during those years, one hearing impaired. It was a fabulous experience and we hold many fond memories of those times. When I retire from teaching, it is my passion to become a CASA worker and assist foster children in a different and fulfilling way. 3) I have been enjoying the "slow down" pace of life right now. I have picked up cooking and baking (something I had no passion for before the pandemic) lol! I make at least 2-3 new recipes a week and have embraced healthier eating. We have eaten every meal at home the past 10 months, with the exception of a few meal pick ups. This has been a fun new hobby and the whole family has joined me in this adventure. I baked 2 totally new Christmas cookie recipes this past December! 4) Scout, Milo, Luna and Clementine are saving my life right now! We are animal lovers...to the core. The joy and peace an animal brings is unmatched. I absolutely Iove them all. I would have more animals if I could, but 3 dogs and 1 cat is what we can do right now! ... See MoreSee Less
