Student Council, PALs, and Student Leadership Rock the Season! What's been going on in C-200?
Hello, Colts Family!
We have officially wrapped up our "Season of Giving" in Student Council, PALs, and Student Leadership. Below is a snapshot of what we have been working on since November.
STUDENT COUNCIL- Student Council maintained the calendar by D hall, recognized Hanukkah, coordinated our 2nd Blood Drive of the Year, 12 Days of Spirit Dress up Days, Singing Grams with Mrs. Bargsley's class and the Green Oaks School, and Arlie's Angels, where clubs and organizations adopted a total of 45 angels this year. StuCo is pictured below with Tillie Burgin from Mission Arlington, whose message to StuCo was sincere gratitude, as these children would not have received anything for the holidays otherwise. Thank you to those who adopted and contributed to Arlie's Angels: AcDec, AP World History Classes, AVID, Boys Soccer, Cheer, Football, Key Club, Kickers, Lady Colt Basketball, Lady Colt Soccer, Lady Colt Softball, Mrs. Perez's Family, Coach Davis's Family, Mrs. Jenkins, Dr. Ward, Ashley Thomas's classes, PALs, Publications, Student Leadership, and Theatre.
PALs- PALs spoke at the Arlington Council of PTAs meeting and began mentoring in October at our feeder schools. On Monday/Tuesday B-days, they mentor 2 students for 30 minutes each. On Friday B-days, they do a program called GOALS, Guiding Others in Achieving Lifelong Skills. PALs read a story that teaches a life skill and lead an activity that reinforces the skill. In April, these students will visit AHS, as a reminder that graduating from high school is a stepping-stone to a great future. They also hosted Santa's Village for our faculty/staff's families. This was a great collaboration with Christopher Grimaldo, Blair Hansard, Erica Capella, Airen Miller, and our very own Santa...Alan Austin!
STUDENT LEADERSHIP- In October, they recognized and celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month and created values banners for the hallways. They kicked off the Season of Giving with letters to troops, making centerpieces and decorations for the Faculty Thanksgiving Feast, making decorative turkeys for the hallway, and serving pancakes for Pajamas and Pancakes Day. They also have been maintaining the bulletin board by the cafeteria, covering topics such as Suicide Prevention, Gratitude, and Winter Wellness.
