Bronco Families,

We

🐴 Bronco Families,

What an outstanding start we have had to the 2026-2027 school year!

One of the things that makes Butler such a special place is the strong partnership between our school, our families, and our community. Over the past few weeks, we have already enjoyed several opportunities to build and strengthen those connections, including teacher welcome phone calls, Meet the Teacher, and our Parent Orientation Nights.

These events are much more than dates on a calendar. They are opportunities for us to work together, share expectations, celebrate successes, and ensure every Bronco has the support needed to thrive. Research and experience consistently show that when schools and families work together, students benefit academically, socially, and emotionally.

We are excited to continue building those relationships this week with two additional opportunities for family engagement:

📅 PTA Meeting

Join us for our first PTA meeting of the year on Thursday, September 3 at 6:00 PM.

❤️ GrandBroncos & Someone Special Lunch

One of our favorite traditions is returning! Our GrandBroncos & Someone Special Lunch gives students the opportunity to share part of their school day with a grandparent, family member, mentor, or another important adult in their lives.

At Butler, we believe strong family and community partnerships create the foundation for student success. Thank you for your continued support, trust, and involvement.

Together, we are achieving Excellence for ALL!

📵 School Policy Reminder: Away for the Day
The goal of Away for the Day is to reduce distractions, improve learning focus, and support a positive, respectful school environment for all students and staff.

Away for the Day means that students' personal devices, including cell phones, tablets, text-messaging devices, smartwatches, and similar electronics, must be powered off and out of sight during all parts of the school day, bell-to-bell. This includes class time, transitions, lunch on campus and restroom breaks.

Texas House Bill 1481 is a new state law passed by the Texas Legislature that requires school districts to prohibit students from using personal wireless communication devices during instructional time. The law defines personal wireless communication devices as any electronic communication device capable of sending or receiving data that is not provided by the school for instructional purposes.

This includes:
Cell phones
Text messaging devices
Smartwatches
Any personal communication device not issued by Arlington ISD
Other similar devices (Please see the FAQs below for additional details)

🚗 Arrival Clarification

Parents, y'all are doing an amazing job getting your Broncos to school by 8:05 a.m. Thank you for helping us start each day successfully!

To help keep arrival safe and efficient, we would like to clarify the morning traffic flow:

-The two outside lanes in the front drive are available for parking only if you need to walk your Bronco to the front door or assist them in exiting your vehicle.
-Only students should exit vehicles at the stopped crosswalk area, where our Safety Patrol members and Dads Club volunteers are available to help students safely cross and reach the curb.
-Please do not use the Teacher Parking Lot for student drop-off or as a cut-through when walking students to the front entrance.
-School doors open at 7:45 a.m.
-Please supervise your child until the school opens and they have safely entered the building.
-After 7:45 a.m., parents may drop off students using the front drive-through lanes.
-Parents may also park on a side street and walk their child to the front entrance.

Thank you for helping us keep all Broncos safe during morning arrival!

📚 Butler Book Fair Is Coming!

We are excited to continue building a love of reading at Butler, and it all starts with giving students the opportunity to choose books that interest them!

Our Scholastic Book Fair will run from Friday, August 28 through Friday, September 4 (ending at lunch). During this time, every Bronco will have an opportunity to visit the Book Fair during the school day.

We will also have two special family shopping opportunities:

Thursday, September 3 following the PTA meeting

⭐ Butler Earns an A Rating Again! ⭐

Bronco Families,

Following Dr. Smith's message about the state accountability ratings, I want to share what this means for our campus.

Butler earned an A rating again this year! Holding a strong rating takes the same effort as earning one, and I don't want that to go unnoticed. Our teachers sustained what's working here, and your Broncos did the work behind it. Butler continues to be a leader in Arlington ISD and across the DFW area because of our amazing teachers, dedicated students, and strong family partnerships.I am incredibly proud of the work we have accomplished together as a community to continue earning this distinction and look forward to our work this year to continue to reach Big Heights!

What We've Been Focused On:
-Supporting individual student growth
-Creating intentional opportunities for students to use productive struggle to increase higher-order thinking-
Creating intentional opportunities for students to talk about what they are learning and share their learning with peers and teachers
-Closing achievement gaps for all students
We are especially proud of our work in Domain 3: Closing the Gaps, which accounts for 30% of a campus accountability score.
Domain 3 Results
2024: 85
2025: 88
2026: 92

Where We're Going This Year
-Continuing our focus on the Small Steps we can take each day to support student success
-Aligning and implementing new SEL, Math, and RLA curricula to support the development of the whole child

Families can learn more about accountability ratings at txschools.gov.
Thank you for your continued trust and support. We couldn't do it without you!

🚗 Start Time Success & Dismissal Safety Reminder
Bronco Families, I am very proud of our attendance and punctuality during the first week of school. As we adjusted to our new 8:10 a.m. start time, we had very few tardies, and that is a testament to the commitment of our students and families.
Our goal is for all Broncos to arrive by 8:05 a.m., giving students time to get settled and ready to learn before instruction begins at 8:10 a.m.
We are also off to a great start with dismissal procedures, and we appreciate your patience as we continue working to make our systems safer and more efficient for everyone.
🦺 Dismissal Safety Reminders
Arlington Police Department recently visited campus to address a safety concern along Margaret Drive. APD asked us to remind families of the following:
-Never double park on Margaret Street during dismissal.
-If there is not an available curbside spot, please take the extra time to safely make another lap.
-If you park on a side street, make sure your vehicle is parked facing the correct direction of traffic with the passenger side next to the curb.

Thank you for helping us model patience, courtesy, and safe driving practices for our Broncos.
