STAAR – State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness
Students in grades 3-6 take the STAAR each year. This important assessment measures student progress in math and reading. In 4th grade, students are also tested in writing. In 5th grade, students will be tested in science. Students in grade 5 must pass the Reading STAAR and the Math STAAR in order to be promoted to 6th. For promotion in all grades students must also have a passing average in class work.
By reviewing the scores each year, parents and educators can determine if a child is making progress. Parents are encouraged to watch for grade level meetings and all-school public forum concerning the STAAR. Please call the school counselor with questions about the test or specific concerns regarding your child’s performance.
Ditto teachers will utilize the state-adopted TEKS curriculum. Every school in the AISD uses the same curriculum to ensure continuity across the district. For more information, contact your child’s teacher, assistant principal or principal.
Approved AISD field trips are part of the curriculum. Students will take field trips throughout the school year. Parents will be notified prior to any scheduled field trips. Any parent or guardian wishing to attend a field trip must be an approved volunteer.
