ELA/IB teacher – 10, 11 & 12

Classes include PreAP English II and IB Theory of Knowledge, which encompasses many subjects as they relate to real life situations. I have a BA in English from UTA and am also certified in Business.

I anticipate that students will enjoy the new challenges and amenities throughout the year.  Please contact me at any time with questions or concerns.  Every student has the capability and opportunity to be successful in my classroom.

It is my goal to make lessons both interesting and relevant in order that every student understands the importance of what we learn in the context of the wider world.  English is about being able to communicate effectively; literature is the framework we use to understand the elements of that communication.  No matter what a student plans on doing after high school, effective communication is essential.

I began teaching in Colt Country in 2011, but before that I taught for five years at another AISD high school.  Prior to teaching, I spent several years in marketing for local, family-owned businesses.  The dynamic nature of teaching is an exciting contrast to the corporate world.    I live in Fort Worth with my husband (also a teacher) and two dogs; our house is almost 100 years old.  When we are not in school or planning for school, we travel.  I love to read, listen to music and work outside. This past summer I was fortunate to be chosen for a National Endowment for the Humanities seminar in conjunction with the Stephen Foster Institute at the University of Pittsburgh on using music as a primary source in the classroom.  Music is definitely an interest that I share with the students, so I am hoping to use more of it throughout the curriculum this year in order to engage and excite my kids.
