Advanced Placement Exams are scheduled May 3-May 14, 2010. Registration will be held Feb. 1-19, 2010. Students need to register through the counseling offices. Home-schooled students who wish to register for an AP exam should contact the counseling office of the AISD high school the student would attend if enrolled in AISD.

National Merit and National Achievement Finalist
Jared W. has been named as a finalist in both the 2010 Competition for National Merit Scholarships and the 2010 Competition for National Achievement Scholarships.
The selection of 8,200 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15, 000 finalists is now in progress. The selection of 800 Achievement Scholarship winners from the Finalist group of 1,600 is also in progress. Winners will be announced in April, May, and July.
Jared is an outstanding representative for Bowie High School in both scholarship programs. We are proud of him and his accomplishments! He is a winner in every sense of the word!
Manhassett Community Service Awardfor January
The Manhassett Neighborhood Community honors Bowie teachers and students for their dedication and service to Bowie High School. Students Bill H. and Betty M. along with Science Teacher Steve Hoffner were selected for the Service Award for January. Congratulations to these great Bowie Volunteers.
Teacher of the Year
Lisa Taulbee, Business Teacher, has been selected by her colleagues as Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Taulbee constantly explores and researches new ways to teach her curriculum. Her students really enjoy her class because of her inventive approaches to presenting them new ideas and concepts. They also trust her to hold them accountable for their own learning. She works with all levels of students helping to guide each one along their way. She is a wonderful role model. Mrs. Taulbee is the ultimate professional. She is a technology mentor, responsible for ERO, involved in AVID and IB, AP teacher, and so much more. You can also find her at many of the extra-curricular activities, which is feat in and of itself considering how far away from school she lives. Mrs. Taulbee is a tremendous asset to all of us here at Bowie.
Business Teacher Named Step Team Coach of the Year
Mr. Chris Caldwell, Business Teacher, was named Coach of the Year by the Helping Youth Prepare for Excellence organization. Mr. Caldwell has coached the Step Teams for 10 years and has won more State Championships than any other coach in the State of Texas. Mr. Caldwell was the first high school Step Team Coach to receive this prestigious award. Congratulations to Mr. Caldwell.
Martin Luther King Sharing the Dream Essay ContestWinners
Congratulations to Kelsey L. and Destiny P. for being selected as the winners of the Martin Luther King Sharing the Dream Essay Contest. Kelsey received a $1,000 Scholarship for 1st place and Destiny received a $750 Scholarship for 2nd place. Kelsey will read her essay at the MLK Awards Banquet. All winners were formally recognized at the MLK Awards Banquet at UTA.

Members of The Bowie Headliners Theatre Department traveled to the Texas Thespian Festival in Corpus Christi. Brandon A. and Josh C. qualified for Nationals in the category of Duet Pantomime. Allowing them the opportunity to compete at the International Thespian Festival over the summer. Jennifer Nwene and Ethan Wilbourn both received callbacks from Colleges through their Scholarship Auditions.
Band Receives Top UIL Rating
Congratulations to our "Spirit of the Volunteer" Marching Band for their spectacular performance at the UIL Region 5 Marching Contest. Our band, lead by Drum Majors Mary Kate Ritchey, Oscar Ceniceros and Rachael Dukes dazzled the crowd with their performance of their marching production titled "Reflections of Earth." The band received the the coveted 1st Division "Superior" Rating by the UIL panel of judges.
