Building Champions

The Lady Vols basketball and track programs share the same coaches and as a team have built these two programs into a impressive powerhouse. After 15 years as the Lady Vols Head Track coach, Doris Grooms built the Lady Vols program into one of the area’s elite. The Lady Vols track team won back-to-back district championships making this their 3rd time as district champions. In 2005 and 2009 the Lady Vols track team finished as Region I champions. Basketball Coach Wanda Talton started the girls basketball program in 1991. Her team won their 4th district championship and their first since winning a 5-A State championship in 2005. Kelly Carruthers and Shelena Landers are assistant coaches in both basketball and track while Coach Grooms and Coach Talton swap out as assistant coaches in the those sports when they are not leading their respective programs.
