Warriors v. Permian
Nov. 21 - 1:00 p.m.
Shotwell Stadium Abilene

What is Coach Wager's connection to Permian football?
In 1992 Coach Wager read a book called "Friday Night Lights". You might know this story, it's the one about the 1988 Permian Panthers football team coached by Gary Gaines. The book had such a profound effect on Coach Wager he loaded up all his belongings, jumped on his motorcycle and moved 1800 miles to Texas to become a high school football coach.

When he arrived in Texas he interviewed at Carter Riverside HS in Ft. Worth and Carter Jr. High in AISD. The principal at Carter was so impressed with his passion that she convinced him to begin his career in Texas at the Jr. High Level instead. That principal - our very own Melinda Reeves.

But, the story gets better...Coach Gaines left Permian after the 1989 season. He went on to coach at Texas Tech, Abilene HS, San Angelo, & Abilene Christian University. His career then took him to Ector County ISD and Lubbock ISD where he served as Athletic Director.

Then, in 2009 he returned to Permian as Head Coach. So, not only will Wager be teaming up against the team that brought him to Texas...he will actually be across the turf from THE coach that inspired his career as a high school football coach. It's not very often that you actually get to live your dreams.

Good luck Warriors! Abilene is just a short 2.5 hour drive west on I-20. Let's show our support by getting as many Warrior fans there as possible! Round 2 here we come! Anybody wanting to caravan please meet in the front parking lot at 8:30 am for an 8:45 departure! DECORATE your cars before you arrive!

recognizedMartin High School wins ratings appeal to receive Recognized rating

Martin High School is now rated Recognized, the second highest rating in the state’s accountability system, after the Texas Education Agency granted the district’s appeal. The district administration appealed the previous rating of Academically Acceptable because of discrepancies between the district and the state in the coding of students in the Economically Disadvantaged student group. This ruling means that the AISD now has six (6) Exemplary campuses and thirty-three (33) Recognized campuses.

REDEMPTION

Last year was the first time the tennis team did not win the district title in over 12 years. It was also the 1st time in over 20 years that the team failed to qualify to reach the Regional Tournament. This year we titled the season "Redemption". The goal of the fall season was to make up for last year and obtain the district title. The team did not want to look at last year as the break of a 12 year winning streak, but rather to look at this year as the beginning of another. In the process of restoring the district title to Martin High School the team had some wonderful individual All District Awards:
