‘Pennies for Peach’ raises more than $1,200

Peach Elementary School hosts a “Pennies for Peach” scholarship fundraiser each year in honor of legendary football coach and school namesake Eddy “The Mayor” Peach and his wife Debbie.

Eddy Peach worked for Arlington ISD for 40 years and his wife Debbie for 36 years. Describing the Peach legacy, Peach principal Dr. Stephanie Lee said it exemplifies, “Excellence, athletics, academics and progress.”

Debbie Peach visited the school last week to see how the students did with this year’s coin drive.

As Peach entered the library, she was greeted by students in grades pre-K to sixth grade. Each student present had contributed every day to the fundraiser that will be awarded to six graduating student-athletes. The students in attendance expressed their love for their school, their teachers and their classmates by each speaking directly to Peach.

This warmed her heart, and she was happy to see the students exemplify her husband’s work ethic. She spoke eloquently about the students, teachers and all the staff.

“To be hardworking, and to enjoy every day with their work and their schoolwork because Eddy believed in hard work,” she said.

The school set a goal of $1,200, and thanks to contributions from all the students they crushed it.

The six recipients of the Eddy Peach Scholarship will be awarded $1,000 each. The candidates have excelled in academics, participated in fine arts, served their community, shown great leadership, and are classified as being the best of the best. If you would like to donate to the scholarship fund, please visit the Arlington Athletics Hall of Honor to make your contribution.
