Frequently Asked Questions

STAAR stands for State of Texas Assessments for Academic Readiness, the State’s student testing program. The assessments are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the state curriculum standards. From third grade through high school graduation, students are tested in the core subjects of reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies.

STAAR tests measure what students in grades 3 – 8 have learned in each grade. STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) tests measure students’ learning in the following high school courses: Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology and U.S. History.

The STAAR 3 - 8 test results account for most elementary and junior high school campus scores. The STAAR End of Course results account for approximately half of the campus score for high schools. The sum of the weighted campus scores determines the district rating.

CCMR stands for College, Career and Military Readiness. It’s a series of opportunities for students to demonstrate their readiness for college, career, or the military. It is one of three measures that factor into the high school rating calculation. The sum of the weighted campus scores determines the district rating.

Schools receive their rating predominantly based on the results of the STAAR test. These ratings are published on the txschools.gov website.

The most important thing for parents and others to know about the STAAR test is that it’s only one measurement at a specific time of year. Educators in the Arlington ISD work throughout the school year to prepare students for the test. Teachers are committed to implementing multiple strategies so that students have every opportunity to succeed on the STAAR test.
