GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Citizens should engage in active learning where they uncover and discover events from multiple points of view using a variety of documents, visuals, and artifacts. Concept-based instruction allows students to make connections, develop literacy though critical thinking and written and oral communication skills.
INSTRUCTIONAL FRAMEWORK
Social Studies content should be relevant to students, focus on key targets, promote active learning, uncover, process, and transfer new learning so students can develop student-centered generalizations, and enduring understandings.
ACTIVE STUDENT LEARNING
Students should engage in collaborative groups where they share and explain their thinking through questioning, role-playing, simulations. Students should use primary resources to gather and cite evidence, create products using technology, and engage in problem-based activities.
