A transfer student is someone who attends a school for which his or her address is not zoned. That includes students who live in the Arlington ISD but choose to go a different Arlington ISD school than the one for which they are zoned. It also includes students who live outside the district but apply to attend an Arlington ISD school.
The term “transfer student” does not apply to students who live in and attend school in the Arlington ISD and then move to a new address and new school zone within the district. These students simply need to enroll in their new school. They do not need to apply for a transfer.
- Fill out the online transfer application. During an open transfer window, a link to the application will be posted at aisd.net/transfer.
- Select up to three schools you would like your student to attend. For a list of our schools, click here.
- Wait to receive your transfer offer. Email or text offers will be sent during or within three weeks after the close of the transfer window. Once you receive the offer, you will have 48 hours from the time Arlington ISD sends you the email to accept or reject the transfer. If you do not respond within 48 hours, the district will no longer consider the request valid.
- Keep the documentation of your accepted transfer offer to present when you register your child at the school.
Yes, there are two types of transfer windows:
- The annual Regular Transfer Window generally happens in the fall semester of each year and students are considered based on a Board-approved priority order where there is space available.
- The Special Transfer Window can open at any time after the annual Regular Transfer Window. During this Special Transfer Window, students are considered on a “first come-first served” basis where space is available. An exception to this is a sibling transfer to a specialized program.
A regular transfer window is a dedicated time of year to apply for student transfers to campuses within the Arlington Independent School District. Students from in or out of the district can apply for transfers during this window, and transfer requests will be granted in the following priority order as outlined in Arlington ISD Board Policy:
- Children of full-time employees (other than substitute or temporary employees).
- City of Arlington residents who reside outside of district boundaries
- All other non-resident requests for transfer.
Students who go to school outside the Arlington ISD can request a transfer to a school in the Arlington ISD – or – students who go to school inside the Arlington ISD can request a transfer to a different school in the Arlington ISD. If seats are available, your child may be able to attend your preferred school.
A special transfer window is a dedicated time of year to apply for student transfers into the District or to other campuses within the Arlington Independent School District.
For example, if your student attends Amos Elementary, but you’d like them to be enrolled at Adams Elementary, you can apply for a transfer. If seats are available, your child may be able to attend your preferred school.
