Miss Ethel Goodman was a long time teacher and youth leader in Arlington. She began teaching in Arlington ISD in 1922 at South Side School. In 1949, she started teaching 5th grade at West Side School where she remained until she retired in 1967.

Both Ethel and her twin sister Tally Goodman taught at South Side School. While there together they organized the Safety Council and helped bring the Girl Scouts to Arlington.

When Ethel retired in 1967, Mayor Vandergriff proclaimed May 28, 1967, as Ethel Goodman Day in honor of all her achievements. In 1974, she received the Woman of the Year Award and the Friend of Youth Award. She remained active as a volunteer until her death in 1979.
