Floyd M. Gunn was born May 22, 1912, in Edgewood, and was raised in the Lubbock area. He attended Lubbock High School and Texas Tech. Mr. Gunn was an Eagle Scout, an assistant Scoutmaster, a World War II Navy veteran and a Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge. He married Beth (Mary Elizabeth Kendrick) in 1946, and they moved to Arlington in 1947, where he joined his father in the residential building business.

He used his management skills, vision and commitment on the Arlington ISD School Board for 18 years, serving as president of that board for six years. After retiring from the AISD School Board, he served on the Tarrant County Board of Education for several additional years.

Floyd Merlin Gunn, 94, went to our Lord and Savior in heaven on Sunday, April 1, 2007.

Floyd was born May 22, 1912, in Edgewood to Merlin and Pearl Lawler Gunn, and was raised in the Lubbock area. He attended Lubbock High School and Texas Tech. Floyd was an Eagle Scout, an assistant Scoutmaster, a World War II Navy veteran, and a Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge. He married Beth (Mary Elizabeth Kendrick) in 1946, and they moved to Arlington in 1947, where he joined his father in the residential building business.

Floyd served on the Board of Stewards for the First United Methodist Church of Arlington. He used his management skills, vision, and commitment on the Board of Education for 18 years, serving as president of that board for six years. After retiring from the Arlington Board of Education, Floyd served on the Tarrant County Board of Education for several additional years.

Floyd M. Gunn Junior High School was opened in 1972, and he continued to take an active role in supporting the students, teachers and administrators of that school.
