Lillian Miller was a teacher in the AISD for almost 30 years. She taught in the old Pantego school before it was annexed into the Arlington ISD. When she began teaching in the AISD, there were two elementary schools and one high school. Miller taught for many years at Speer Elementary.

Miller Elementary was the 29th elementary school to open in Arlington. The dedication was held on Nov. 8, 1981. Miller was quoted as saying, “No system is stronger than its classroom teachers, whether it is a one-room school in the mountains or a well-equipped modern facility. I think we have the very best situation in Arlington.” Superintendent J.W. Counts, Trustee Dr. Tom Telle, Miller Principal Floyd Sanders and friends Mytrice Larson and Gennety Childers all spoke at the dedication.
