Arlington ISD kicks off Capital Needs Steering Committee

Arlington ISD officially launched its Capital Needs Steering Committee (CNSC) on Wednesday, Nov. 5, with the first of six scheduled meetings at the district’s Professional Development Center. Nearly 40 community members, including parents, staff, business owners, civic leaders, and others have committed their time to help evaluate and plan for the district’s future facility and capital needs.

The committee’s purpose is to review and analyze data related to student enrollment trends, facility conditions, educational programs, and taxpayer impact. They will continue to meet through early January, and their research and decisions will culminate in a set of comprehensive proposals to be presented to the Board of Trustees by Jan. 8, 2026, and incorporated into a possible future bond election.

Arlington ISD Board Vice President Sarah McMurrough welcomed the new committee members.

“We have a very diverse committee, but one thing you all have in common is that you care very much about where the district has been and where we’re going to go,” she said.

Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Matt Smith took time to emphasize how important the committee’s role is.Arlington ISD kicks off Capital Needs Steering Committee

“The best thing we can do is ensure we get the voice of the community in the planning process,” Smith said. “We need you to be an active voice in the process.”

During the kickoff meeting, members received an overview of the district’s purpose, charge, and promise, along with presentations from subject matter experts on demographics and enrollment trends, public school finance, and the process for assessing facility needs. The evening also included opportunities for discussion, questions, and committee feedback.

“I’m honored to co-chair this committee that brings together a diverse group of community members who share a deep commitment to Arlington ISD’s future,” said Dr. Catherine Para, a CNSC member and chair. “Our first meeting set a strong foundation as we begin to evaluate the needs for the district and the community.”

Community members are encouraged to review meeting presentations and materials and share feedback throughout the process. All information is available on the Arlington ISD Capital Needs Steering Committee webpage at www.aisd.net/cnsc.
