Grey and Red Illustrative Librarian Day Facebook Post
Posted in , on April 2, 2026

In honor of National School Librarian Day this Saturday, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the dedicated educators who serve as librarians in Arlington ISD schools. These certified teachers do so much more than check out books.

“With their expertise, school librarians enrich the educational experience for every student in the district,” said library services coordinator Lesley Cano. “They ensure that both students and teachers have access to relevant resources that align with the curriculum and help students explore subjects on a deeper level. By collaborating with classroom teachers, librarians help design lessons that incorporate these resources, making learning more interactive and engaging.”

Instructional Support

Arlington ISD’s librarians are certified teachers with an average of 10 years of classroom experience and three professional degrees. They are dynamic partners in student success, bringing the TEKS curriculum to life in every library. They help students foster a love for reading and then so much more. Librarians also provide lessons on digital citizenship and often introduce students to all kinds of hands-on technology, like coding and 3D printing. Arlington ISD libraries are where hands-on innovation meets academic excellence.

Family Engagement and Support

Librarians serve as a vital connection between the school and home, providing parents with curated digital resources and tools to support learning at every level. Through regular communication, librarians share proven best practices for nurturing a lifelong love of reading and creating literacy-rich environments at home. Beyond providing reading materials to build home libraries, librarians take great pride in celebrating student progress, whether it’s mastering a new research skill or reaching a personal reading milestone, they ensure every student feels valued, supported, and encouraged in their academic journey.

Reading Challenges and Promotions

Across the district, Arlington ISD libraries are vibrant hubs of literacy, offering a wide array of reading challenges and interactive opportunities designed to spark a lifelong love of books. From daily excitement like Scholastic Book Fairs to creative student-led “book talks,” library programs make reading a visible and celebrated part of school culture. Teachers model their passion for literacy and learning by highlighting their own favorite books and engage students in high-energy events like “Masked Reader” competitions and Texas Reading List contests. Whether it’s a seasonal literacy challenge or a friendly campus competition, our librarians make every student’s reading journey an adventure.

Thank you, Arlington ISD librarians!
