Teachers learn how to teach flag football
Jesse Bradley caught the football and quickly turned up field, all under the watchful eye of a Dallas Cowboys coach.
But Bradley doesn’t play for the Cowboys. He stars for Arlington ISD as a P.E. teacher at Peach Elementary.
Bradley caught the pass during Arlington ISD’s professional development day last month, when the Dallas Cowboys partnered with the district to host an NFL FLAG-In-School training session for elementary physical education teachers. More than 100 P.E. teachers from across the district participated in the hands-on – or flags-on – training at Key Elementary.
The professional development was part of an ongoing collaboration between Arlington ISD and the Dallas Cowboys to expand high-quality physical education opportunities for students and promote healthy, active lifestyles.
“Our elementary P.E. teachers left ready to bring this exciting flag football program to students across our district,” said Matt Bostick, Arlington ISD health and physical education curriculum coordinator. “This curriculum offers more than just sports skills – it promotes teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence in a fun, engaging setting. We look forward to seeing our elementary students active, motivated, and having a blast while learning important life skills on the field.”
In August, the Dallas Cowboys donated NFL FLAG-In-School kits to all 52 Arlington ISD elementary campuses, launching the partnership with a special district-wide kick-off event at Remynse Elementary.
Teachers at last month’s training also received Dallas Cowboys gear and had the opportunity to demonstrate their athletic skills while engaging in the curriculum activities.
“What an incredible experience!” Bostick said. “Thank you to the Dallas Cowboys for providing quality training and donating the necessary equipment our students can utilize for years to come!”
