Posted in on August 12, 2025

Arlington ISD is proud to announce that five of our outstanding students have been named finalists in the prestigious National Math Stars competition. Selected from a competitive pool of more than 4,500 applicants across Texas, only 200 students earned the honor of being named a finalist, and five of them call Arlington ISD home.

  •  Han Nguyen, Farrell Elementary
  •  Alexander Valdez, Duff Elementary
  •  Daniel De La Higuera Garcia, Wood Elementary
  •  Ryan Nguyen, Pearcy STEM Academy
  •  Isaac Benson, Little Elementary

“We’re so proud of these young learners,” said Arlington ISD Chief of Schools Bret Champion. “They represent the best and brightest in math across the state, and their achievement is a testament to their hard work and determination. It’s also a tribute to our educators and their commitment to fostering academic excellence in every single one of our students.”

The five young scholars were honored by the Arlington ISD Board of Trustees at its meeting on Aug. 7.

Later this month, the finalist pool will be narrowed to 100 students who will earn the title of National Math Star. National Math Stars receive personalized support and resources for the next ten years to help them achieve and grow in mathematics, science, and technology.
