Glaspie is home field for Martin and Seguin

Arlington ISD’s new Glaspie Field opened with a roar Thursday night – a Seguin High School Cougar roar.

The undefeated Cougars roared up and down the brand-new field on their way to a statement victory over The Colony, 68-30. Then Martin High School followed suit Friday night, with a resounding homecoming victory over Grand Prairie, 65-6.

It was the perfect opening for a new stadium.

“Glaspie stadium is state-of-the-art when it comes to high school football stadiums,” said Seguin head football coach Joe Gordon. “We are thankful to the athletic department and AISD board members for making a dream into a reality! The Cougars are excited about our new home!”

The opening last night has been years in the making. Martin fans fill Glaspie Field at the Warriors first game in new stadium.

“It was a very exciting night for AISD Athletics,” said Arlington ISD athletic director Eric White. “It was fun to watch the excitement of the students and coaches walk onto the field and at the end walk off with a victory. We are very thankful for the support of the community and the hard work to make this happen.”

A 2019 Bond project, Glaspie Field has about 10,000 seats, a large press box, locker rooms, restrooms and concessions, along with a turf field and all-weather track. The stadium features LED lighting that is significantly better than traditional lighting in that it can be directed into the stadium and onto the playing surface more efficiently, has considerably less spillage from the venue, and can be turned on and off quickly.

Glaspie is located on the Martin campus where the school’s practice field used to be and is serving as the home field for Martin and Seguin high schools.

Arlington ISD’s two other stadiums, Cravens and Wilemon, will soon be renovated to match Glaspie.
