Sam Houston valedictorian Alexis De La Torre

It’s graduation season and we are celebrating the Class of 2025 valedictorian and salutatorian for all eight Arlington ISD high schools. Meet Sam Houston High School’s valedictorian Alexis De La Torre.

NAME: Alexis De La Torre
SCHOOL: Sam Houston High school
COLLEGE: University of Texas at Austin
INTENDED MAJOR: Mechanical Engineering

〉What is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

Learn how to prioritize events, assignments and sleep. It’d be great if you could always get enough of each, but the reality is some days will require sacrifice. So learn to pick and choose. Organize yourself and be ready for anything and everything.

〉What will you miss most about high school?

The times I spent laughing with all my friends when someone told an inside joke. Watching our teachers’ puzzled faces only made us laugh harder. Those jokes were built over our four years of high school, and I’m really going to miss the people who shared them with me.

〉What are you most excited about after graduation?

I’m excited for the opportunity to study abroad, especially the chance to travel around Europe. I’m really hoping I get to watch FC Barcelona play live; that would be a dream come true.

〉Who inspires you the most and why?

Abner Mejia Lopez is a close friend with whom I’ve had a friendly competition throughout high school. He inspires me with the confidence and determination he showed while pursuing prestigious scholarships and competitions. Through careful planning and dedication, he reached those goals on his own. He has a deep knowledge of history, chemistry and writing, and I often turn to him when I need something proofread or have questions. I hope to follow his example. Pursuing knowledge and aiming for the most prestigious accomplishments.

〉What’s your favorite high school memory?

My favorite memory is Senior Sunset, being chased with buckets filled with water and having them dumped on us was a great experience. We were able to have fun again like kids without phones and just being ourselves.
